Hello
Evening all. Thought I’d drop by the bottom bracket since I was around. What have I missed?
(Cue “who the hell are you” again 🙂)

What have you missed... that is the question.
Stevo and Seano are trying to our pedal each other though it's not looking epic at 6 miles a week each. HD had a knee operation on account of a skiing accident and is looking forward to another... err, skiing 'holiday', Webboo ran out of food, SG keeps fraternising with a group of women who he plies with pineapple and bubbly, TLW is in line for another job but the boss doesn't want him to go, Thistle comes and goes and comes and goes and is running up that hill, Wheelspinner keeps tinkering with his mammoth sheds though not in his sheds, VN69 keeps fighting the decrepit IT tide and sillyness for some inexplicable reason, Orraloon is officially a pirate but is looking for a Parrot to complete the look, the vince wotsit bloke popped in a couple of times but he does actual proper miles and will never fit in, Oxo will probably be doing something for his lad which seems eternal (talk about apron strings 🙄) and I have a full time job just being me. Rick Chasey has turned into Adolf H and Stevo in to Norman Tebbit. Brian Trumpet has a legion of French followers (300k+) all in their late 70's and upwards on Facebake.

Not much then! The Chasey/Hitler transformation is a surprise. Stevo/Tebbit perhaps not so much 😂
I’ve not ridden a bike for nearly a year now but I have been running a lot. Otherwise, work is work (seconded to the senior leadership team, which isn’t as exciting as it seems) and a department full of people who won’t be told. Otherwise all good - the 16 year old is getting ready for GCSEs and sixth form which is tremendously stressful all round. Junior Thomas is in his first year in the grammar and is surviving.

Didn’t you build a bike from scratch? Why you not riding that?

Yeah I did. I kind of fell out of the habit of riding and now I find myself feeling a bit nervous about the standard of driving around the place. The idea of getting out on my own for a couple or three hours is off putting. I don’t really want to try to find a club, the last time I did that didn’t work out, and the friends I used to ride with have all got better things to do.
So running has taken over - pretty good workout to run for an hour compared to riding for an hour and less risk of hitting the deck. Cowardly I know.

Hello.
The question is, who were we in the first place?

Do we even know?

I’ll be around. Don’t often think I have much to say that anyone would be interested in though. It’s a character flaw 🙂

Suppose I am like Norman in that I got on my bike, unlike Seano the Hutt 🙂

Don't worry, have you read some of Pinnos posts? 😀

Similar story here apart from having to give up most of the running due to injury 😑

Hah! Spot on!!

I actually think there is something in this with most driver's. If you ride confidently but sensibly and are clearly (in most people's eye) a fairly experienced cyclist, driver's seem to be more respectful.
I signal, give clear indication, don't ride in the gutter but also don't block the road. I think that in combo with being pretty quick gives most driver's a sense to drive round me carefully, and I get very few issues.

I don't run any more due to injury but I see that as a plus point in some ways.

Yep, don't be meek on the road. I'm the same.

My knees don’t enjoy running and as I need to keep them sweet for the next 40 years (🤞 ) I don’t argue.

Conversely if you wobble all over the road you’ll be given plenty of space but creates a bit of a toxic atmosphere.

That was the Graeme Obree suggestion from around a decade ago. 🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I’ve managed to stay injury free so far. Properly got into it at the beginning of June, trained up for the big half marathon in September and just carried on. Knees are ok, hips ache after a long run but that’s not surprising for a new to running 55 yo. It’s getting better.

I’m not meek. Just slow. I enjoyed riding with mates when we did that (although always hated making them all wait for me at the top of hills), I’m just more aware of the damage I’d have to deal with if I were to be knocked off now. And how I’d be screwed if I get stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere!

Oh and I still have my bike and don’t intend to never use it again. It needs a bit of tlc when the weather improves though.

We’d all be in trouble if we had a big off but you can’t really think like that. 🤷♂️

I honestly didn’t know he said that. Graham obviously knows his stuff. I’d certainly do my best to avoid Obree if driving past one of his washing machine part contraptions.

Yeah I know that too. Don’t know what’s going on. Probably the whole thing about time being in short supply these days (work continues to be mental) and not wanting to give up on exercise means running not riding. Traffic is just an excuse.

He was being interviewed on a cycling program on C4 and was asked "What's your top tip for commuting?".
His answer "Wobble.".

Hello Mr GTi 👋
Must confess I tried running after an off, didn't like it so got back on the bike as quick as I could.
I used to ride motorbikes to work and would often be asked if I was worried about the danger, my standard answer was that they saved me so much time if I added it all together I could spend weeks laid up in bed and still be ahead. Same applies to cycling to work for me.

I used to run as a bit of a top up when I couldn't ride as much a I wanted. But it was always a bit boring. After I ripped a tendon and it didn't heal properly, I packed it in but don't really miss it. Luckily I can still pedal no problem.
