Which bike would be suitable?

I'm cycling Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia in August for 3 weeks. Will be hot and hilly. I'll be carrying everything I need to live for the 3 weeks so the bike must be able to cope with this weight... eg panniers, tent, sleeping bag, clothes etc.

I'm going to rent a bike out there from a bike hire company. I've received quotes from several companies for the following bikes - would any be suitable for my trip? I'm by no means an expert so not 100% sure what sorts of things I'm looking for:

BIKE HIRE

  • Hi mate.

I'm sorry I saw this so late. I hope you plumped for the Galaxy and I hope you had a cracking time in the Balkans (it's where I want to go next).

I bought a second hand Raleigh Randonneur about 12 years ago and it was the most significant purchase of my young adult life. Buying a dedicated touring bicycle meant that I could go on tours and get the most enjoyment out of them, something you wouldn't get with a hybrid. It being hot and all you'll really need a granny ring for the long hills (hell, even for the short ones!!).

Touring is the best thing I ever did and I utterly fell in love with it.

I hope you had a great experience.
