Hi,
can someone local to Sunderland suggest the viability of following the river path from near the National Glass Centre past the Stadium of light to near Castletown in the west?
As part of a longer trip I will be heading from the coast at Roker to the angel of the north and following the river to get round the city looks doable but I can't tell from Google maps what the surface is like. I'll be on a road bike.

Yes you can ...follow the C2C to birtley ...once under the A1M hang a right north along Durham rd (on the road here no way to avoid it) to the Angel of the North0
