Shimano 105 cog/chainwheel capacity .

Just setting up my touring bike for a trip .............Shimano 105 Medium length cage , 28/38/48 , 11-28 . Would the rear mech cope with 12-32 instead , and would I need a longer chain ?

    What series of 105 do you have?

    The medium 105 5800 RD is quoted as having a capacity of 37. You need a capacity of 40 [(48-28)+(32-12)].

    You may get away with it, you may not. You will more than likely need an extra link or two in your chain too.
