New Beginners Bike

I am looking to get into Mountain Biking, Hired a couple on a weekend away and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have a budget of £300 and I'm looking for advice on purchasing a New Mens bike suitable for a beginner.
Any advice or bike recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Go outdoors do the calibre for 400 which is great value for money,

    That is the calibre .50, the .22 is around £300 and excellent value.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
