    I did the long route with a 11-30 cassette and compact at the front, definitely needed that gearing - it was 88 miles and 8600ft of climbing with some steep bits (goose eye, cow and calf and black hill especially!)

    I finished just inside the top 100 and average cadence was 80, tried to spin as much as possible - couldn't imagine doing it with a harder gearing
