hi,

i decide to have campag athena 11 speed groupset to build on my soma stanyan bicycle frame, a vintage bicycle.
after i did some research, i found veloOrange provided some nice classic wheel, but their campy freehub body is not support 11 speed.

do any guys get know any company sell classic wheelset which compatible with campy 11 speed?
or any solution to make 10 speed wheelset to support 11 speed ? (manually change the freehub body?)
im willing to have polished silver 650b wheelset, large-flange hub, 36 spokes, 130mm frame spacing.

thank you.

Why would a VO Campagnolo 9-10 speed freehub not support 11 speed as all Campa 9up freehubs do?

Generally, Campag 9-10 freehubs are also 11-speed. There are a few exceptions - such as the original Hope RS Pro 3 - it's was a fraction too short and has to be updated - but it was updated to a 9-10-11 freehub of the right length, rather than a n 11-speed specific one.

Is the VO hub an exception too?
Anyway , it should not be difficult to trace classic formed silver rear/front hub (f.i. Ambrosio) and have build it with silver rims (f.i. H+ Son TB 14)

Not expensive hubs and with cheaper rims you can have a wheelset for less then 200....
  • i emailed to VO, replied that none of their hubs or wheels will take an 11 speed cassette.

based on this video, it said grand cru hub is support campy 11 speed freehub body (at 2:26) .

VO replied we used a Campy compatible cassette by Miche and it fit, but we found later on that Campy cassettes were just a hair wider and would strike the spokes, causing damage. Better to not suggest it, then to suggest it and find out that there are exceptions that can cause damage. So we removed any mention of 11 speed to avoid issues at all.

the great news is VO are working on an 11 speed compatible Hi lo hub, but it won't be on the market until Spring of 2015.

i will wait for it if i failed find any replacement vintage wheelset in the moment.

please share if you have any idea on other brand provided vintage wheelset.

    thank you

Personally I wouldn't bother with 11 speed at all....
I have 3 "modern" bikes all equipped with Campa 9 speed and one "classic bike" equipped with 8 speed , downtube shifters and all the other old stuff.
    Rear spacing all the same...
The wheelset I use in the classic is build from Veloce 9 speed hubs and very old Mavic Module E rims which were lying around for 20 years on my attic....use it with 8 cogs with 8 speed spacers though.
