Hi guys,

I am aiming to do the above next year and would like some suggestions on how to train for this event.

I am 6' and 18.5 stone, drive a desk for a living and have 2 young kids at home.

My aim is to lose weight by balancing my diet and trying to exercise where possible, bike related where I can, upto xmas. Then from new year start increasing the distance I am riding, intensifying from March onwards. I live on the edge of the dales so have some challenging rides locally.

Just really wondered if anyone has done the crossing and can advise on training in the build up and any advice for weight loss greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Just had a quick look at the 2014 route, first stage 100+ km and 6500ft of climbing on the first day. Thats a fair way on a mountain bike. If you are serious about it then id suggest starting trainng now. Good news is youve got 10 months to get your endurance up, just start cycling, dont go fast, just go for distance and the speed will come later.

    Good luck.
