You can get an ANT+ dongle for iPhones, which allows you to use a Garmin HRM strap, dunno if they do one for a Galaxy.

You can get bluetooth HRMs too, I've had no joy with connecting an ANT+ one to my SGS2. Endomondo definitely supports the bluetooth ones, not sure about Strava.

I've just enquired about a garmin edge 500, one of my suppliers often has great deals on Garmin products.

Better way to go, thats what I use too, uploads to Strava/Endomondo and things fine. I don't both with Garmins own software anymore.
