Hi all

I'm looking to get a road bike to do a 20mile commute to work once or twice a week, fitness training, and some triathlons on.

I'm looking at:

Ribble evo pro carbon with a 105 or Centaur groupset
Planet x carbon grand fondo with Sram rival
Planet x carbon rival with Sram rival

All come in at £999. Any opinions would be most appreciated.

Thanks :D

appart from the ones that the Defy1 wins
  • I have an Allez at the moment, albeit the entry level one. I'm looking to make the step up to a better groupset, and a carbon frame would be nice

The Defy and Boardman Team aren't really comparably as the Defy is a slightly more relaxed bike, and the Boardman has a more aggressive frame and riding position.

I've got a Defy 1 and its a joy to ride... and is ideal for a commuter as Giant make a rack for it, and full mudguards...If you're looking for a race focused bike, I'd look to the Boardman though.. or maybe something like a Canyon roadlite or Rose Pro-2000.

Out of your suggestions, I'd choose the Planet X over the ribble.

I'm looking at spending £1K and for that price the excellent ribble sportive bianco gets you a good carbon frame and reasonable components.

That's where my money is heading.

I believe it to be the next bike level up from the Allez
