Bowland Badass filling up...

My local club is running it's first 'sportive' - or should we say 'ultra sportive' - on July 7th - a very tough route round Bowland, with all the main climbs (Tatham Fell, Bowland Knotts, Waddington Fell, Pendle Hill...). Not for the feint hearted.

We're doing a recce of the ride on the 5th May, just to check the route (and try and put down a decent time 8) )

    I am gutted that I cannot make the event this year as I really was looking forward to it, Might be able to make the recce however if its okay to gate crash? Hope the pace is not too high - I am only an average sportive rider but no stranger to hills or distance.

    the craziest sportive on the calendar in my opinion... im doing the fred whitton and even i think this is extreme... i like it

    sorry for not spotting your post Brian. The recce is just me and two other riders, to test the course and flag up any nasty spots, so not really 'open' to other riders, sorry.

    The main ride on the 7th July should be a good day out. There's nothing as brutal as the Fred's climbs but there's just a lot of them.

    Im signed up, but not 100% sure if I can make it. Would be gutted to miss it.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the 'big' sportives - Fred, Etape etc. - but this is a new sportive, at the beginning of it's life so to speak, so anyone who fancies having a go is ...well, a pioneer!

    Hell, in 5 years it might be massive and we'll be printing T shirts and selling Badass Beer at the finish

    I need to look at the following:
    Taking fri PM off work, getting up there (from London), overnight accommodation for Friday and possible Saturday

    Basically I need to do it as cheaply as possible as well.
    What would be a worthwhile station to be looking at trains to?

    I can suggest some local accomodation if you want coriordan...?

    Nearest station is Lancaster. I can pick you up from the station and give you a lift to where you're staying if you want :wink:

    Sweet. I've looked at Lancaster, and its about 60 quid return - thanks very much for the lift offer.

    As for accommodation, all I need is the cheapest place going. If they do breakfast, that would be an amazing bonus - I think I'll probably set off as early as possible in the morning, as I'd like to be home before the pubs close!

    It's something I have a great knowledge of, I'm afraid. When we have visitors we generally manage to squeeze thenm in somewhere. The only place I have personal knowledge of, since they are friends of ours is http://www.littlestubbins.co.uk/

    There is also this place

    which pops up on the tourist Information site. Those are the only two, but I can't believe it's all there is. I'll post if I come across anywhere else that looks likely
