GT Avalanche 2.0 or VooDoo Bantu?

I'm new to MTB, but I'm really enjoying it, living by Cannock Chase. I want to buy a new bike circa £400, but which one?
I was thinking of either:
GT Avalanche 2.0 on offer at Wiggle http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gt-avalanche-20-hydro-2011/
or
VooDoo Bantu from Halfords http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_786839_langId_-1_categoryId_165499
It will be used just for weekend fun rides on Cannock Chase such as Follow the Dog. I'm 95Kg, 6" tall and certainly not looking to be competitive.
I'm only interested in New - I'm not looking for 2nd hand because I don't want to have to do anything more than upgrade the pedals for quite some time.
I would really appreciate your opinions.
Thanks
Colin

well i guess its down to personal choice but i perosnally would go for the GT, having a Gt aggressor myself. However it does have less gears than the voodoo but i think overall they both have a very similar spec. I dont have any experience of riding a voodoo so it may be better than the GT! The best way would be to go instore and see what they look like and try them out, you want to make sure the reach and saddle height etc is the right size for you, as even when bikes are the same frame size, they may not have similar dimensions in certain areas. They both look like decent bikes.
Hope this helps0 -
The VooDoo has 24 gears, the GT has 27 from what I can see.
Unfortunately I can't go into store if I buy from Wiggle.
The thing that sways me toward the GT is that is was £629.99 and Evans are still selling it in their sale for £499.99 - that makes me think that the Wiggle £379.99 is a bargain.

I'd take the Voodoo for the forks and brakes. The Dart on the GT is rubbish.
24 gears are actually more than enough.I don't do smileys.

The Voodoo has the better fork by a long way, but the GT has the better drivetrain (number of speeds aside), personally I'd go for the Voodoo and look to replace any drive train parts as they wear out, that dart will hold you back on the early sections of the dog where you need forks that will help you keep the tyre on the ground.

No experience of the GT, but can vouch for the VooDoo, it's fantastic value for money.0

How about this Avalanche?
Only £420, big reduction from it's original price and a good fork on it as well.0 -
Thanks guys, the Voodoo Bantu has been ordered and I'll pick it up tomorrow. With a 10% discount online voucher, at £360 it's got to be a bargain! Well that's what I've told my wife anywaySummer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
