hip problem

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me figure out the cause/solution of my hip pain.

I've been getting it a bit for the past couple of years, but I've just got back on the bike after a few months off and it's got a lot worse. Both hips hurt all the time now, a dull ache, even after a few days rest, and they click all the time too.

I don't push massive gears and recently have been stretching a lot more (which doesn't seem to make any difference).

I thought it could be position but I'm on a new bike which fits me beautifully so unless I've made the same position mistake (possible!) it's not this.

Suggestions very gratefully received!!
Gillian

I would have thought that you need specialist help. GP's may not be much good unless trained in sports injuries so you need to get to the next stage. Or go for a private consultation where you could get dealt with more quickly. In the mean time check out your crank length is right for your leg length..

    THINK !.
If you tell your GP that this happens after cycling they will tell you not to cycle and pat you on the head as you leave the surgery. Job done. So, don't mention the cycling if you can because their job is not to keep you on the bike. Just to keep you mobile. A private practice's job is to keep you cycling if possible.

    Suggestion.
Try telling the GP it happens when you carry the shopping and see if they tell you to get a trolley.

    I am not joking.

Could be lower back/hip muscle problems especially the psoas which is attached to the hip. I tell you what I would do because I suffered with my back/hip for over two yeara and the NHS physio failed me big time. Go see a sports physio for a very very deep massage around the lower back, glutes, quads and IT band. You will need several treatments, my back is the best it has been in about a year after only four deep massages. Tell your sports physio to hurt you because this is the only way to loosen what I suspect my be lots of tight muscles in that area.
Let me know how you get on and good luck

    Thanks for the replies.
I think I'll get myself to my GP and see how that goes and if I can get him to take me seriously. One advantage of a rural GP - they do seem to care a lot more than the ones in the big city practices!

    +1

Hip pain after walking and running kept me out of action for 2 months at end of last year. GP said it's muscular, take nurofen and it will go away. Basically rubbish. Got a rec for a sports physio from a guy who coaches me from time to time. A full examination and she concluded lower back problem ansd stiffnes. Two deep (and painful!) massage sessions and some exercises from her and problem solved. See a good sports physio and pay if you have to.
