Silly Brake Replacement Question?

Hi there,

So the time has come to replace the brake pads on my Spesh Sirrus.. It has V-brakes.

I was hoping to get some kool-stop Salmons which I keep reading so much about.

Are these compatible with V-Brakes? Or do I need V-brake specific pad/cartridge blocks? I only ask because on my lbs's website, "V-brake" is listed as its own section, along with caliper and cantilever etc.

I take it the whole of my brake block needs discarding, including the shoe/housing? I think this is my problem, I am very confused about the terminology. I understand that a pad slides into a shoe, (are these even relevant to V-brakes?) but what is a cartridge or block in that case? And ultimately, are you only able to use kool stops etc with better brakes e.g. dual pivot cantilever?

Many thanks
