Is my chain the weakest link?

Ok so pun aside, I have just done an upgrade to my wheelset, Hope Pro II and XT cassette. I am still running an old Shimano HG53 chain, it has plenty of life left in it, but should I replace it it would not be wasted.
Will this chain be fine to use still on the new XT cassette, I suspect it will be fine and that I should run it till it needs replacing, but I want to treat my new cassette right. It feels a little rough at the moment, but might just need some lubrication. However would a KMC X9 or PC991 chain be worthwhile buying or shall I just run the chain till it dies?
Cheers.

I'd suggest getting a new chain to be honest and use that. Once the wear on both chains are close to being equal hey presto you have two chains to run on your bike between races or rides and will ultimatly give you a longer life on your new XT cassette0

Get a brace or triplett of 951 chains, SRAMS cheapest 9 speeder. They don'y have the fancy plated links..but the key is you change them before they overly 'stretch' anyway, thus preserving your sprockets.0
