Fellas,
Ive spent the last few days doing the rounds in about a 20 mile radius to ALL my local bike shops to see what was on offer and to try and pickup a bargain unfortunately theres no bargains to be had really wrong time of year as they are flying bikes our of the door
Theres just sooooo much choice are they all much of a muchness should I just go with the one I like the look of best or is there a gem currently out there
So if anyone is "up" on 2010 bike specs and recommend one please, they stock all the usual suspects

doh....!
forgot to say mainly roads , trails, bridleways bit of XC0 -
Ive also looked at the Rockrider 6.2 and 6.3 (onlinne only as I dont have a local shops) should I stay away from FS?0
-
FS is usually compromised at this price point.
Have a look at the Carrera Kraken.0 -
thanks for the reply SS, Ive read loads on here and the Kraken is mentioned most times in this price bracket, if I was to go for a CK then the next problem is when to jump in for one, as Halfords are continuously changing the price and putting different offers on a weekly basis
eg Current Web Price £375.99
Instore Price £469.99
Web Price
£375.99
WAS £469.99
Save £94.00
yet less than 3 weeks ago it was on offer for £319.99 according to hotukdeals a saving of nearly £60
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/652465/2 ... ntain-bike
Im in no rush to dive in and purchase so any idea as a gauge how often the £319.99 price comes around? (should I start a new thread asking what people paid for their kraken)

Push your budget to £439 and pick up a Carerra Fury this weekend in the Carerra 20% off sale...0

£600 on the website and not in the sale :?0 -
theres currently 20% off "selected" carerra bikes till Tuesday which I dont think includes the fury as its still showing at £599.99 are you aware of another offer coming up?0
-
just done some maths, £600 bike 20%=120 new price £480??0
-
My mistake - I just saw the headline and assumed the Fury was discounted again.
As you were...0 -
DB Apex from Wynstanleys for £489

But being as you mainly using roads etc what about this Ridgeback 29er at £399
http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/produ ... _Bike_2008
You might as well go for more of a hybrid than a MTB

I don't know this make or if it was ever worth the RRP, but it looks well spec'd for a sub £400 bike.
Corratec X-Vert S 0.4 Hardtail Bike From £385.00

Apologies, I read in one magazine that they are a major shareholer in them...I may have been mistaken0 -
thanks pudseyp and SD you have given me some good links, a question though how does the Corratec measure upto the Kraken (same money at the mo), aplologies if this is a daft question
i take it if i did go for that one Id basically get a bike in a box0 -
The Corratec looks very good for the money. Even though it has a worthless XT rear mech upgrade, the rest of the parts are great value.0
-
thanks SS so tempted have one in the basket but I think Im too chicken to buy a mail order bike, worried about the building side of it or paying even more for it to be built0
-
If you ask them they will probably build it....all you will have to do is then straighten and tighten the bars and put the wheels on..0
-
hiya, pudseyp thanks for the info i will drop them an email asking the question
cheers0
