Front Brake Upgrade - Advice please

Have a query I hope you guys can help with.

I run a Gary Fisher Cake Delux 2 with Manitou Black forks and Hayes 9's using the standard 6"discs. I want more stopping power so thought the best thing would be to go for 9"rotor so asked Santa for a kit. Anyway, long story short, the head Mechanic in Evans advised my mum and dad that if I upgraded to 9'rotors I'd break the forks as they would exert too much force.

Is he right? should I go for 8" instead or is it a case of replacing the forks to something stronger.

Cheers

9 inch rotors are pretty massive pal
180mm / 7 inch usually plenty for most bikes / riders.
and buying new forks is an expensive way to upgrading brakes.

the Black does not like big discs.

go 180 MAX on that fork.
