I currently own a Trek 1.7c, which I am happy with, but want to change a few bits.
Standard double to replace compact, any other advice?

Go for the Planet x bundle deal here;

You may have to wait for stock though, that is if they let you order OOS items :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

what don't you like about compacts..??0 -
looking to compete in local races
just feel a double may help a little
quite often in 50/11 and run out of gear
and before you ask, cadence is above 400 -

Don't change anything.
Only change when you crash in a race.
There are not many races where you will run out of gas in the 50/11 at 120rpm...0 -
not sure I could maintain 120 rpm for very long0

on the flat, or down hill...??
50/11 is actually pretty close to 52/12 - you will rarely be in such a big gear in entry-level racing. Keep the compact - especially if you haven't even tried racing on it yet...0 -

What can you maintain?
I dare say if you can't hold a cadence of 100+ you won't last long in a road race.0 -
dont have a cadence sensor.
really for descents and flat sections to give an extra push
fairly new to this
qualified mechanic but only been training for anbout 3-4 months.0 -
so the planet x bundle would be a very good choice then?
and would not outclass my trek 1.7 frame?0 -

...no, but it may outclass your legs.Cycling weakly0 -

depends what you're trying to achieve - bling/weight loss or performance improvement. If you are thinking of racing, then I would consider investing your cash in a good pair of racing wheels and tyres, rather than pissing it away on stuff like seatposts and stems....0
