I had two Beta Coupes in succession all of 25 years ago. It was the saloon version that rusted not the coupe. They were both brilliant, especially the second one which had the 2 litre injection engine. The other thing was that they were dirt cheap because people thought they rusted!

I once crossed Europe in a Lancia Fulva, as a hitchhiker :(

Most people who owned a Lancia ended up hitch-hiking.

My father had a Lancia 2000 in the early 1970's, it broke down on the way home. It then continued to fail at regular intervals with a mixture of oil, fuel and electrical related faults. It had fuel injection which usually only fed three of the cylinders, the heater was useless, the handbrake didn't hold the car on a hill and it leaked in around the windscreen. Most amusingly it made a strange whining sound between 35 and 40 mph. A noise only matched by my father.

It was as a standing joke between me and my friends wondering whether the car would be in the drive when I got home from school. If it was, my father had been on the bus to work - again!

He traded it for a Volvo after about 6-8 months.
