The non cycling public seem fascinated by the TdF - must be the history or something, hence Cav getting nominated. Impressive TdF stage wins, but not even top 10 overall.0

What was he, 4th?
I suppose we have to define what SPOTY is - to me it is mostly a BBC back patting session for the posh presenters and typical BBC sports like rugger, track cycling and other upper class pursuits.
MTB, DH? Ha, no chance. Commoners.0 -
they should do that but a cycling version. with muddy presenters and audiance dressed in shorts and jerseys and helmets0

I do have a lot of respect for Wiggins though - he only came 4th but a year or so ago he was a track specialist, the transition he has made is phemomenal! Cav never has any hope of winning overall - he's a sprinter not a yellow jersey competitor."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -

Shame really he would never have won but it would have been nice to get a shortlisting aesp as its in Sheffield.
Although I wonder how many other minority sports are cursing because they have a world champ that has not been recognised.
They should at least have a section recognising all the british world champions in some kind of roll call0 -
just read Wiggins autobiography & a few years ago at SPOTY he was shifted to the back as wasn't seen as important enough (he had just won a gold at the Olympics).
Therefore for the team persuit to win team of the year last year & Cav to be in the final list is a great step forward, just still a LONG way to go!0 -
Hardly surprising, it's still a minority sport after all and with no coverage of his world title on tv. As someone else said, there's probably loads of other forums like this where fans of minority sports are complaining that their own multiple champion hasn't got a look in.
It's a pretty uninspiring list this year though, even if a lot of them are world champions. Button will walk it I reckon.0 -
You might want to read this before you all go BBC bashing. I think that's a pretty decent mention for what is very much a minority sport.

Yeah, I remember the day after Peaty won, Mike Bushell on Breakfast did his normal news bulletin, then mentioned the race, explaining how he hadn't won this title in the 13 or so years that he's been racing, and how he'd been riding with him down trails and was in complete awe at the speed in which Peaty hit things. It was a nice thing for him to do, but as mentioned previously, I imagine not too many people will be that interested, so it wasn't a main headline.
Shame though, but I imagine Peaty isn't that bothered. It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Button will win it but I reckon Ennis deserves it for her world class performance this summer. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Not bad, but nothing like track and road cycling get.0 -
When asked about road and track cyclists getting more press:BBC website wrote:"Everyone knows Downhill is the hardest and the pressures for us are a lot bigger, so I don't see why I need to complain," says a mischievous Peat.
