1) Having 3 weeks off from riding means when you do go ride, you get nakkered very quickly
2) The bike does actually fit in my car with kit
3) Riding alone is pretty sweet.
4) Maxxis Minion Single ply F+R are the best tyres i've used...ever... sooooooo much grip!
5) My bike is terrible at climbing
6) My bike is amazing at decending
7) Long pins on the Slim Jims are brilliant :D

All in all a very good day!

Oh and to the 3 xc guys on their expensive FS'ers that went sniggering past on the climb... right back at you on the decent :D

Anyone else had a good day riding?

    I agree with points 1), 2) and 3) (the second 3, I mean)

I am totally dead after trying to get up a mountain on an old deserted footpath that would have been easier with safety ropes.
Looking forward to a few beers and then passing out on the sofa!!

So was it Gisburn you managed to get to today - ride report or it didn't happen

Here's my take on your post, some similarities :)

    1) Having 4weeks off from riding means when you do go ride, you get nakkered very quickly and gutted when your mate climbs a hill that you fail at :(
    2) The bike does actually fit in my car with kit, though mine always has!
    3) Riding with mates is better than riding alone.
    4) Bontrager Mud X are great in the mud but they are slooooow
    5) My bike is amazing at climbing
    6) My bike is amazing enough for me to leave my mate for dust (or mud spray maybe) on the decents.
    7) SPD's are brilliant

Had a great ride today, some if was nasty though even coming down some of the decents was hard work because of the 3 inch deep mud. Never saw any other riders today and 2 pints of HSB to end the ride was great :)

    my own
1.riding two days in a row makes you knakered.
    2.my bike is crap
3.my forks are better than they used to be
    4.it's very muddy
5.leg warmers only keep in place if you wear lycra shorts
6.having no mech on the front means riding uphill is hard
7.having a dodgy shifter means it takes ages to shift
8.riding next to dogs with no lead is sacry
9.riding on a path with tiny loose stones hurts when they flick up
10.trying to jump and failing while there are people around is embarresing
    11.my bike is crap
    12.FLAT PEDALS RULE!!

    1) I'm actually fitter than I though
    2) Stinging nettles are painful when fallen in
    3) Riding alone is pretty boring
    4) My tyres have absolutely no grip in the mud
    5) My bike is great at climbing
    6) My bike is average at descending
    7) My plastic pedals are s*** and need to be taken off and replaced
8.) My plastic pedals have fused to my crank :|
    9) I want suspension...

Unfortunately no... wanted to ride alone somewhere familiar :(

However, depending on how sore my legs are... I'm wanting to get to Gisburn tomorrow :)

    Ben

if you fancy a guide for Gisburn tomorrow pm me, I need an excuse to get out especially as the weather is not looking great. I'm not exactly fighting fit at the moment either so it won't be a race around.

  • That sounds pretty good, I did struggle today though on anything going upwards so you might have to hang about a bit at the top of the climbs

What I learnt from my ride:

    1. Cycling up a steep hill at the end of a ride, in the dark, when you're exhausted, isn't fun.
    2. Landing a jump perfectly feels great
    3. Landing a jump badly and crashing into a tree doesn't feel great (luckily my juicys saved me from properly crashing - i just skidded into it sideways)
    4. I met Ollie Wilkins (DMR team rider)
    5. How to tighten a headset
    6. My gears aren't set up properly (chain kept skipping across the cassete)
  • My ride:

    1. Getting fitter after fifth consecutive ride on the ss.
    2. Cycling up a steep hill at the end of a ride, in the dark, is fun.
    3. My pedals are on their way out.
    4. My cheap brake pads, purchased off Ebay, are CHEAP.

    I've had a cracking 48 hours.

Went to Swinley Forest with the bike club last night, left at 7 - arrived home at 2.30.

Then got up this morning at 7 to go to Bedgebury Pinetinium with the bike club and got back at 1.
Four hours sleep is not conducive to a good ride.

    1. I need more brake cleaner before I bleed the back brake on the Socom or tackle the pads on the car.
    2. The front brake is very, very powerful on my Socom when bled and should not be grabbed ham-fistedly with three fingers.
    3. It was the cable that was rendering the Socom incapable of shifting
    4. Genesis IO frames are lighter than I thought they were.

    1. Being unable to ride for at least 8 weeks with broken bones isn't getting me any fitter
    2. Can't drive my car either for same reason (it's still got muddy bike kit in it and I can't be arsed to get it out)
    3. I'd settle for riding with Osama Bin Laden and Jedward right now
    4. Minions rule.
    5. My bike is usually a magnificent climber but hasn't turned a wheel in over a month (see item 1)
    6. My bike is also fantastic on the descents - unfortunately it appears that I am not (hence all of the above points - apart from 4)
7.......... oh sod it, I'm off to bed.

have a good day tomorrow -lucky sods

  • My ride:

    1. Getting a flat when your in first place isn't cool.
    2. Getting to have a ride on a bike with full XX IS cool!
    3. My bike is fantastic up hill, but it's probably as heavy as a tank.
    4. My bike is good on the downhills when I learn to let go of the brakes
Saving up for an NS Traffic is being made extremely difficult by the fact that Christmas is getting rather close-ish now.
    5. Riding alone is boring
    6. SPD's aren't great in Slaloms...

7....riding is too much fun to stop doing!

    1. It's great to back out on a bike.

    2. It's great to back out on a bike.

    3. It's great to back out on a bike.

    4. It's great to back out on a bike.

  • My Ride:

    1. Realising your fitter than you think you were is good
    2. My bikes terrible :(
    3. Yet i still overtook a load of other MTB'ers going uphill, who were all on 2K FS bikes, with my £250 HT and flats 8)
    4. Riding on your own is not very fun
    5. My forks are truly terrible :(
    6. My frames to small
    7. My front shifter is shagged
    8. My tyres are incredibly grippy in the mud, but shite on wet rock :?
    9. I need to get some wider bars!
    10. Mums are very useful and kind when you come back almost completely plastered in mud :)
    11. I may have had all these problems, but i still had fun :D
  • And after this morning's ride:

    1. My forks are poorly.
    2. The cheap brake pads, bought off Ebay, are very, very, very CHEAP (worn out after 6 rides - first and last time I do that)!
    3. My Sealskinz socks are not doing what they are supposed to do.
    4. Having to get off halfway up a climb to navigate around a fallen tree is annoying.
    5. The bacon & egg sandwich my wife made me post-ride was so nice.

    3. chainsuck is really really really really annoying.
    4. runners running up the labyrinth are idiots.
    5. Im rubbish at finding my way around when on my own.
    6. seeing hundreds of father christmas's at the end of the ride was amusing!
    6. bacon sandwiches, coffee and soaking in the bath with the laptop afterwards is the best way to spend the rest of the afternoon.

    1. i'll never be as good as my husband
    2. i have developed an irrational fear of drop offs after my last big off
    3. i 'need' a lapierre zesty
    4. i really do need new forks
    5. driving busy country roads in the dark and mist is not fun
    6. a big pub dinner after riding is fab
    7. trail centres get stupidly busy on the first nice day after 2 weeks of rain and gales
    8. it's bloody cold out
  • 1) After not being on a bike for 2 months or so leaves you reallly unfit
    2) Riding in the rain sucks
    3) Riding on roads sucks, but its a good way to get back into the swing of things
    4) I re-learnt how to bunny hop
    5) I missed a quality trip to afan yesterday
    MmmBop

    Go big or go home.
  • Well after todays ride at Gisburn with Stumpyjon I realised...

    1) I NEED A TRIPLE CHAINRING hahhaha  (it'll be going on the P7).
    2) Gisburn is bloody brilliant!
    3) Driving in your riding shoes but forgetting a spare pare to drive home in SUCKS!
    4) Riding in the rain and mud is epic good fun.
    5) Riding twice in a weekend after 3 weeks off really shows how unfit you've gotten.

My devastating insights into riding from today are:

    1) Bigbenj definitely needs a triple chainring :lol::lol::lol:
    2) Riding during the winter can be as much fun as the summer (it was 3 degrees, didn't stop raining and was really muddy but it was still great).
    3) My granny ring needs replacing (again  , chainsuck sucks).
    4) The Fuzzy Duck man does a really nice mid ride bacon butty and coffee.
    5) Gisburn isn't as shagged as some people have been making out, true it's 'interresting' in places but it actually feels more like natural riding (although I will accept the bit below the crag is totally b*ll*cksed).
    6) Mountain bikers are generally cheery and pleasent people, spoke to loads of complete strangers (and a few friends) today and despite the horrible weather they all chatted back.
    7) Cleaning up after a ride can take longer than the ride.
8 ) SKills course are definitely worth doing, absolutely nailed the S berm on the blue section today.
    9) Having someone to ride with really gets you out of your pit in the morning, no way I would have gone riding today if Ben hadn't been up for it, feel knackered but very smug now, cheers Ben.

    That is all :D

    Me next!

    1. I'm really happy overall with my new GT ID5 XCR, ride much better than my Saracen
    2. The stock pedals are horrendously bad
    3. I shouldnt have worn army trousers with loose bottoms, cut to shreads on the front gear
    4. Buy a helmet and shades, I was the ONLY guy on Cwmcarn without either, felt like a newbie spaz (should know better)
    5. I love Cwmcarn, awesome, even when I rode the trail UP for the first time
    6. Riding on your own can be very enjoyable, I did miss my mates but random people along the trail are very friendly
    7. I need to take a change of clothes next time! Thank god I had a Snap-On seat cover.
    8. Being overtaken on a climb buy a guy who was at least 30+ years older than me put things into perspective, I was pushing and he went passed me like he was on a motor x'er. He made me look silly, I had to laugh

Great day over all, loved getting back into it, looking forward to next weekend with the boys :D
