Bottom Bracket query

If a bottom bracket on a frame is cross-threaded, how difficult is it to get it re-tapped ? and how much would it cost ?

I don't know how they fit, but if a Hollowtech type (external) bottom bracket was fitted instead, would the cross-thread problem even need to be fixed ?

Thank you for any responses.

there are many options for fixing a damaged BB ranging from a cut and shut and re tap or a bore out and have a sleeve bonded in to just having the threads chased out.

get a Good bike shop to look at it.

This sounds like a problem for your LBS to answer since they'de have to have a look to determine if the threads can be fixed. Sometimes they can just re-tap the threads and problem solved but they may have to do something more drastic. Don't just try to thread another BB into the shell without chasing the threads first as you may make it worse as well as destroying your BB. Makes no difference if Hollow Tech or Octalink etc. They use the same style of threads. Sorry but I don't know what shops charge for this.
