Carbon frame BB help (urgent)
I took my carbon frame to my LBS this morning to have the BB removed. I recieved a phone call some minutes ago to tell me that they cannot get it out. When they turn the cup on one side the other side turns aswell. They suggested that the best way to get the BB out is for them to gently warm it up? I do not like the sound of that one bit. The LBS is a specialist racing cycles only shop and employ a former pro team mechanic, however he is not at the shop until Tuesday.
I have never been to this shop before and would prefer to wait till Tuesday for an expert opinion When i spoke to the man in the shop this morning he appeared to know what he was talking about Has anyone else had a similar problem.

If both cups turn it would suggest that the BB shell has come away from the frame itself? What frame is it?Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

sounds like the shell has come away... getting it out might be problematic...0

We used to press-out stuck BBs with a fly-press - OK with steel and cheapo ally but not recommended for carbon! Really depends on the make of BB, how it is constructed and whether it can be pulled apart in situ - many are bonded together - hence the need for heatMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

As i said in my first post the only thing that i know is that when the mechanic tries to remove the BB both sides are turning. He never mentioned that the BB has come away from the frame or anything is broken. Will be in the shop on Tuesday and hope that the former pro team mechanic can help. Whatever happens will keep you informed and thanks to all for your replys its much appreciated.

Can't they hold the other side still with another tool? Good luck Tuesday though - hope it works out.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

What is the BB threading?
What type of BB unit are we talking about?
I ask because if it is an Italian threaded BB then it is entirely possible for the BB unit, as a single unit (both cups plus whatever is in the middle) to be moving as a single unit within the bottom bracket and not the threaded sleeve having become detached.
If it is an Italian BB this would be my first thought rather than the problem being detached sleeve. Sleeving is a well understood and established process plus with modern manufacturing and bonding techniques whilst a detached sleeve not impossible it's unlikely.

Good news, the mechanic managed to get the BB out without damaging the frame. To get it out he used a hacksaw to make two cuts at 90degrees to each other in the BB cups and sawing almost all the way through to the frame, this was to relieve the pressure a little, they then came out quite easily. Apparently. The BB was never greased when it was fitted in the first place and that was the cause of the problem. For removing and fitting the old and new BB its cost me 65quid, which may sound a lot, but given the amount of work involved i am quite happy, Thanks to all for there advice and opinions as always much appreciated.
