Hi all,
I'm an experienced mountain biker but have gotten the urge lately for a bit of road riding due to my neighbour having started on a road bike. I have little clue about road bikes, brands, component spec, standards etc... so I am hoping someone can shed a little light on the following bike:

Is there something else I should be considering for around £2k ?

Pinarello's are beautiful bikes so can't deny it would be a great choice but.....
I see them at £2,400 rather than the £2K you mention (see the FP3 at Evans Cycles
And hence the Specialized Tarmac Expert is in the same league at £2,500 and also has the Ultegra groupset. Or down to the Tarmac Comp on 105's for £1,900
Good luck, and let us know what you buy !"If everything seems under control then you're just not going fast enough" - Mario Andretti0 -
orbea..cube and wilier bikes are v.good
i suppose if you've got the money, you may aswell get the best bike for that.My father's name was Antonio Andolini... and this is for you.0 -
Well ive found this bike for £2k which seems a good price. Would i be right in saying the 'MOst' parts are a pinarello own brand?
I notice that quotes around the web for road bike wheel weights being like 1500g! I just bought a mtb wheelset weighing less than that?!
I hate to jump and buy the first bike i see but on looking around this one doesnt seem to bad.
When are 09 bikes reduced and the 2010's come out in road bike world?Ibis Mojo SL-r0 -
Yes MOST is the brand name of pinarello parts. I have an alu pinarello, which has been great , so I would guess the FP3 would be even better. Pinarello's are great looking bikes.0

My Mrs has a FP3 which she got earlier this year.
It is a lovely bike, and she swears by it's handling. She thinks it is a better handling bike than any of her others (also has a Trek 5500 and a Litespeed Vortex)
It is not the lightest bike she has, but the MOST parts on it are all upgradeable over time to lighter stuff if that floats your boat. (the vortex is sub 15lbs though so not a fair comparison)
I think the good handling is down to the Onda forks which do seem to work.0 -
Well I couldnt resist and picked it up today, paid £1950 for it from my LBS so figured it was a great deal.
Spun just 15 miles tonight and I'm pleased, really stiff frame (coming from mtb's) is definately noticeable. I dont feel fully confident on it yet but sure I will get used to it
Here's some pics:

Very nice frame - personally I think I would have gone for a lesser frame with better spec parts, bet then you could put record components on that frame and not over capitalise.
Congratulations a very nice looking machine0 -

Ha, yeah about 6 - ive sorted that now ive had a chance to do some faffing around setting it up comfortably. Thanks for all the comments, first thing my g.f. said was 'are you sure thats not a girls bike?'; she saw the pink accents on the frame.Ibis Mojo SL-r0

That's a great bike. I disagree with people who say you should get a lesser frame and better components. You can always upgrade things like the wheels as you go whereas getting an new frame would be a real pain in the arse.
The wheels on your bike are probably not all that great but the frame and groupset are great. I would maybe upgrade the wheels in a year or so to something a bit nicer.0
