dont touch pixmania - really dodgy company. 3 months of waiting for a product that never arrived and support staff based in france that couldnt speak english. Credit card refund eventually as company wouldnt do anything.
As for where to buy - depends on what you are intending to buy. If you are entering the world of dslr and intending to part with £1k+ then shop local and try for a price match.
If you are looking for a cheap compact then there are lots of good online stores.
As with anything the key is to compare - and be sure to include delivery charges when adding up.
good/large range but not that cheap

Amazon can sometimes do decent deals - but beware the marketplace.
Jessops tends to be pretty expensive however they can offer the occasional good deal.
John Lewis are expensive but good in that they price match with something local and give free longer warranty periods.
If you are going low end Nikon tend to have the superior optics.
If you are going dslr Its the Eternal Nikon/Canon debate - but Canon have the better range of glass.
A good review site that has full sized images taken with different cameras is

This way you can see for yourself the quality and not rely entirely on the opinion of others.0 -
Ok thanks for that. mrs.blitz wants a Panasonic TZ6 but the price difference between online and high street is huge.0

I've had good luck with Expansys for electronic doohickeys and bought my FZ28 from them, although I would normally say the same as with a bike; get a camera from a camera supplier, but that does more apply to the more enthusiast end of the market (DSLR etc).
the prices quoted above seem pretty competative though (Expansys is 219 for the TZ6)Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
