I'm having a few days awak this weekend and staying in the Lake District. I'll be based on Windermere but happy to travel.

I've looked at the Grizedale forest with its North Face trails, has anyone tried that? And can anybody recommend any other good routes in the Lakes?

Many thanks

Biketreks in Ambleside sell routes and know their stuff. Wheelbase in Stavely is another shop which should be a good centre of information. I'm sure that they organise group rides which you could join.

Grizedale is fine but there's plenty of natural stuff too; Garbun is great for instance. The North Face is OK if you prefer man made stuff and don't want to buy an OS map. There's great singletrack around Ings. Avoid Under Loughrigg near Ambleside - it will be packed with walkers in the summer hols.

North face is good fun but if you can get up to whinlatter as well its more like the riding in Wales.

Give Whinlatter a go - big uphills, big flowing downhills.

IMO the lakes is great for the more 'natural trails'. My favourites are the borrowdale bash from keswick, the trail around rydal near Ambleside, and I've heard good things about skiddaw.

just to let you know that the North face trail is closed this Sunday until 2pm due to a mountain bike triathlon event, plus the last downhill section is closed until the 13th due to forestry logging.

plenty of other (better) stuff around Grizedale and the Lakes though.

+1 for whinlatter, it is amazing! Especially the north loop.
