Looking to replace thefront mech (nexave) on my 8 speed triple 48t,

as they are "multi fit" it looks like either alivio m413 (con) or alivio m412 (top swing) will do the job, same price on both - which is best?

    neither.

you need the same as you have now.

    the other will not fit.

    really?

confusing me this one - I thought alivio would go on any 8 speed

"Dual pull design allows it to be used with top or bottom cable routing
Multi-fit design for 28.6, 31.8 and 34.9 mm frame tubes
For Hybrid or trekking type bike designs with 63-66 degree chainstay to seat tube angle
Can be used with either 44 or 48 tooth outer chainrings
Compatible with 8-speed drivetrains" is how jejames decribes it

yes but if your frame is designed for a top swing you will need a top swing. if it is designed for a conventional you will need a conventional.

the band is in different places and that can cause problems.

frame design or bottle cage mounts and cages can all get in the way.
