Avid Elixir R rear brake problem

Removed these brakes from one frame to put on another. Left them off for a few days before installing on the new frame and noticed the distance between the calipers was to small to refit the wheel.
Made the mistake of removing the pads for a closer look. Pulled on the lever a few times to see what happened and one of the pistons neary popped out completely, along with a tiny bit of fuid. Now there's no movement at the caliper at all when pulling the lever (no tension in the lever) . . .
Have I completlely wrecked it? Is it fixable? Do I need to bleed it? Any help appreciated.

yes it needs bleeding. buy a kit or let the LBS sort it."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
