Victor, is there any truth in the rumour that they're considering moving the Vuelta back to April?0
-
Unfortunately yes, a mistaken decision in my opinion (I think Aso is behind it because there are many riders thinking in do Giro-Vuelta in the same year), in april worse startlist and weather (so no high climbs)If you like Flandes, Roubaix or Eroica, you would like GP Canal de Castilla, www.gpcanaldecastilla.com0

In the link they mention Unipublic? Are they still running the race for ASO or are ASO taking over next year?0
-
Aso has 49% of Vuelta (Unipublic and other less), but still Unipublic decides about route (at least in 2009, after thath who knows)If you like Flandes, Roubaix or Eroica, you would like GP Canal de Castilla, www.gpcanaldecastilla.com0

With you know who riding the Giro and TdF. The Vuelta with those stages could be the best and most open of the grand tours this year.
I hope the rumours aren't true about ASO moving it to April? Are they just putting the squeeze on the owners of the Grio? To get a monopoly on cycling.0 -
But it always used to be in April so the season had a natural progression up to the Tour - for me it works either way kin the season, but it might simply end up as a warm up for the Giro. The trouble is, it's always played second fiddle to the big two.0

Victror thanks again - I'd really love to see the Vuelta go with courage of its convictions, cut its length to 2 weeks and just have a bunch of very hard mountain stuff - what a lovely race that would be0

I dont get this idea of cutting the race from three to two weeks, for me the whole thing about a GT is its lenghth and seeing who is strongest over the three weeks of flat ,mountain and time trial stages . Cut it to two weeks and its drops to Tour De Suisse level and if its packed with mountain stages then where is the attraction for sprinters and roulers ?
MGGasping - but somehow still alive !0 -

I've heard this idea mooted before with the rationale that the sprinters' stages lack visual attraction - just Spanish dust - and that the Spanish don't particularly care about bunch sprints anyway.
What about being really sadistic and going for three weeks of mountains?
And the sprinters and rouleurs could come to the Tour of Britain for their Worlds preparation.0 -
