I currently have a Marin Eldridge grade 06, but am planning to upgrade. The first points that come to mind are wheels and frame. I couldnt find any information on the frame i currently have and as i have never fully stripped it, i dont really know the weight. Does anyone know the weight of the frame roughly or where to find it?
Quick browsing found this,

What are peoples opinions? I think it looks like a steal. Its not that light weight though to be honest, its 1.6kg. Looks awesome though. Idealy looking for a light weight hardtail or maybe a light full-sus rig to do xc racing (like the spark but a lot cheaper)? suggestions? I have max £800, but idealy something for less.
Cheers guys.

The Eldridge Grade was a good frame - don't know the weight, but I expect it will be similar.
The Viper looks to be a good deal, but check the geometry out. Merlin are doing the RL Tig SL for 180 quid - and that weighs about 1450g.0 -
perfect, i was wanting to speak to a zaskar carbon owner. I can get hold of a frame for £800 and they look amazing. How does it ride? Rough weight of that? Must be pushing 1-1.10kg?0

Heavier than you think lol. Not designed as a pure XC race frame, it is beefed up to be pushed harder. Mine weighs 1400g with headset cups. Ride is lovely, stiff under power but absorbs all the little rumbles and buzz.
Has a longish top tube, steepish geometry. I am going to run mine at 120mm on the fork.
If yopu want a stiff, no compromise XC race frame take a look at this:

Won't get lighter for that money!0 -
On the other hand i could upgrade the stock wheels to something like

or maybe

Is it worth the extra £100 for the hope 3 set?
At the moment i have Mavic XM 117 disc on shimano hubs which i think are quite heavy and are the weak point of the bike? I may be wrong?0 -
Wheels will be fairly heavy - that second set doesn't look that light for the money.
Could try XTR hubs on 717 rims and Sapim CXray spokes.0 -
go the whole hog and get a stans set of wheels!!!!
light and strong...0 -

hmm what do u think? anyone heard of hasa before? i like the unbranded carbon fibre look and weighs 1.2kg.0 -
Hmmm, risky. More expensive than you might think after delivery charges and import tax.
That guess frame is lighter lol.0
