woodland Bike Trails in Leeds

Does anyone know of any bike trails in woods/countryside suitable for 2 intermediate adults and 2 children aged 5 and 11. My 5 year old has only just learnt to ride without stabilisers so it would need to be quite a flat route.

    Not sure about woodland exactly - I live between Leeds and Bradford in one of the hilliest areas so I can't recall much that's woody and flat - but the Leeds/Liverpool canal path has always been a nice relaxing Sunday out (lots of kids on bikes!) and there are a few trails branching off that you might care to explore.

    Try Temple Newsam park. They've been busy building cycle trails of varying levels there.

    Do be careful in Temple Newsam unless you're with a group. Have heard several reports of people being mugged for their bikes.

    Roundhay Park is good - mixture of tarmac paths, compressed gravelly tracks and some muddier / rootier paths, all of which you are allowed to cycle on. Different route-length options - around big lake, around little lake, up the gorge, up in the woods, up the tarmac paths from the lakeside cafe ...

    There's a disused railway line, now adapted into a traffic free cycle route near Wetherby:

    There are some good tracks and bridlepaths near Eccup reservoir and through the grounds of Harewood House.

    A few years down the line (when your youngest is up for some hills!), there are tracks and bridleways at Otley Chevin - the Danefield side (the right-hand side of the road down from the airport into Otley as opposed to the Chevin side)
