Recommend my other half a decent budget road saddle

Since taking a horrible "women's specific" padded Bontrager armchair thing off her Speicialized Rockhopper and replacing it with an excellent Charge Ladle perch, her comfort and enjoyment has gone up huge amounts (not to mention the bike looks a shed load better too!)

She has a similar offensively humungous Bontrager "Fit" thing bolted on her Trek 1000 WSD which we bought at the weekend and the first ride has confirmed that yet again biggest is not best in the saddle comfort department! Can anyone recommend her a smaller, more comfy road perch that does not break the bank?

The Charge Ladle was excellent value at £20...we were almost thinking of getting another one, has anyone used one as a road saddle? My retro roadie has the Spoon (bloke's version of the Ladle) as do some of the Charge road bikes and it seems to work OK...any thoughts?

It'll just be a bit heavier and more crash resistant, otherwise my gf liked her fizik vitesse

I have the Specialized Jett women's saddle on both my road bikes. I too replaced the Bontrager one on my Trek 1000 wsd. Have had no problems with the Jett. Only thing is there are three different widths, and you need to make sure you get the right one. If you find a shop that's a Specialized dealer, they have a little mat (called an ass-o-meter!!) that you can sit on to work out what size you need.
  • I've got a jett too, it is by far the best saddle i have ever used. All the others resulted in major numbness or bleeding! They are quite pricey but after buying my first one full price I found one on ebay for my other bike and got it for £25.

The words 'budget' and 'decent' don't go together with women's saddles. I tried some pretty expensive ones as well including A Fizik Vitesse (not cut out hole) and the Specialised Jett (too soft) which I didn't get on with either. Nothing worked for me till I found www.mcmwin.com selle anatomica (US firm) after nearly five years of pain! A leather hammock design saddle - not the more usual plastic shell with padding, but not like a Brooks either as it is much softer leather and has a cut out hole.
