Routes near Newcastle (Upon Tyne)

Hi,

I've been looking at Jobs in Newcastle and want to know what riding is up there.

I used to live in Durham so I've ridden at Hamsterley (a while ago) and done trips to the 7 stanes but not much else.

What else is in the area? How much is in Chopwell Forest?

I'll be in North Newcastle (Jesmond/Gosforth) and would like to know if they're are any local loops that don't require driving over 30minutes. I don't mind driving to rides but sometimes you just have time to pop out rather than take a full day.

I'm an XC rider, like trial centres but prefer to ride mainly natural stuff (Current area is the Quantocks and Exmoor)

I have a road bike if it gets desperate but need a regualar MTB ride to keep me going.
