Anglet to Gibraltar

Any fresh view or comparisons would be much appreciated. Route one Anglet, Oloron-sainte-marie, Sabinanigo, Zaragosa,Utiel and on to Ciudad Real or the alternative route to Pamploma, and down east of Madrid. to Ciudad real. First route seems to be about 200 K longer, however I feel it might be more senic, and without the big cols of the central Pyrenees.?

    Rode first route in reverse 2000. Nice - hilly but not manic. Plain around Zaragosa hot & dusty in early may. Oloron had nice campsite. Col du Somport is tighter & steeper on French side but descent into sabinanigo via Jaca should be a great whizz!
