6061 and 7005 are exactly the same density, though 7005 has a slightly higher tensile strength. They need slighlty different treating and aging methods, and 6061 welds better.0

Hehe, basically, its how they are made. One isnt really any better than the other! Alu costs and forming have dropped a lot over the last few years.0

There was a thread on here, or the old MBUK forum asking the same question. IIRC Carerra, Kona and Merida frames are made in the same factory, but to completely different designs and matearials, so Carerra's are not old Kona frames. Do a search on here and you'll probably find it.

Yeah, that's how I understood it andy. The companies design the frames geometry and butting etc but that a lot of 'em are made in the same far Eastern factories.
Going back in this thread a bit the only OE on my Caldera 8 mnths down the line are the brakes, drivetrain and saddle! The spec now matches the quality of the frame!I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf0
