Giro 2007 - Preview
Hi,
I would like to discuss some predictions to the Giro. Who is going to win and who will be this year's surprises?
Personally I believe in Cunego because of the time trails and the many climbs - and he has the best team behind him. The only alternatives is of course Di Luca, Savoldelli and Simoni... or what?
The sprinter's competition is between Bettini and Bennati
(if he is riding!!!)... or what do you think?
In Denmark, where I come from, there are several fantasy manger games which I love to join. But the Giro is always difficult cause you can never be sure how much the more unknown riders gamble on the Giro or they are just preparing for the Tour or Vuelta! So could anyone please help me with some information on the following riders and their goals in the giro?
Eddy Mazzoleni - what's his form like? (have not joined many races so far)
Andrea No‚ - what's his form like?
Luca Mazzanti - can he finish in top-25?
Tadej Valjavec - does he gamble on the Tour de France again this year or will he go for the Giro?
Vincenzo Nibali - some bookmakers have placed him low in odds... how come? Can he really do something in this race - like a top 20?
Leonardo Bertagnolli - what's his form like? (have not joined many races so far)
Pablo Lastras - is he up to something in the Giro (stage victory, a top 30?)
Giampoalo Caruso - can he ride as well as last year or is his form not good enough?
Riccardo Ricco - He is in great shape now - what can he achieve in the Giro and will he finish the race? What are his goals for the race?
Sergio Ghisalberti - was great last year but have not given any signs of the same form this year - is he ready?
And what about all the sprinters: Who will come to Milano? (who has plans to leave the Giro before stage 20?)
Haedo - Bennati - McEwan - Hushovd ???
Hope somebody will help me. Any Italians or others that know something abour all these riders form and objectives for the Giro 2007???

Ussing - a quick note, if you look at the top of your posting you should see a pencil icon. That allows you, and only you, to edit your posting.
Now I'm going to read your preview.0 -
Thank you andyp.
Did try that icon but the posting did not appear. Don't know why cause it is possible to edit my reply...0 -
Riccardo Ricco willwin the Giro, but only if Simoni lets him go,cant see cunego or di luca winning.
Salvoldelli as an outsider0 -
Do you seriously think Ricco will win? Perhaps a top-20 but never a top 3. Big climbs and time trails are too much for him! He's in great condition but to ride well for 3 weeks with high mountains day after day. No way he's gonna finish in top 3!!!0

How old is Simoni, he must be getting close to his sell by date. As for Cunego, i am not convinvced by him, he has hardly been on fire in the Grand Tours, since his win. Il falco must be one of the favourites and Astana have enough good riders to support him.
As for Danny D, well he is certainly a class act but he is more of a classics rider than a GT man.
As for the other names mentioned, the likes of Noe, Ricco and Carouso are likely to pad out ther top ten along with one of my favourite Itallian riders, Franco 'the beast' Pelezotti aka the Hair Bear.0 -
Can Vino be the only clean rider here?0
