If money is no object then I don't know of any downsides except battery life. Try and go for a high capacity li-on or Nimh battery and you should get at least 2.5 hours burn time.
I currently run a 13w hid helmet light and the light is amazing. I been impressed so much that I have just ordered a 30w (1850 lumens)bar mounted hid for œ150. Both my hids have a burn time of 2.5 hours.with the bar one having an adjustable voltage so I can drag it out to 3 hours if need be.

They don't like being turned on / off frequently.
Spares can be very costly.
Older designs used to take a few mins to warm up before they became bright and suffer from over-heating0 -

Looking at the Hope ones, which are the ones I can get the best price on, the HID light has a better minumum run time than the LED.

Try www.batteryspace.com as this is where I got mine and it was alot cheaper than any of the Uk kits.
The quality is good for the price paid.
I can't wait to try the 30watt hid as it's the equivalent of a 100w halogen bulb.

Veg - you can't buy the Hope one. It goes against at least 50% of your previous posts.

HIDs are great, still better than leds. they dont like hard knocks and bulb life is dependent on the number of starts.
I have lumicycles which are good apart from i have not updated the connectors and they can get pulled out.
gasgasman2001, thats a seriously bright light.0
