Hi people, I've been riding for a year nearly now on my Gt Avalanche pro hardtail and I now want to get a full sus.
I have narrowed it down to either and Orange 5 Pro or a Specialized Stumpjumper Fsr Pro. Both are similarily specced and both get good write ups.
So my question which one.? I will off course try them out first before I buy.

After trying both out I'm sure you'll become an Orange owner!

That o5 sure is pretty, captain, What dya expect to pay for an 2007 one, (i reckon that new sloping top tube is worth the premium)

The Pro model is œ2199 and I added the RLC forks, Hope pack, Performance pack, M4 brakes and XTR spuds, so about œ2600 or so. [:I]

Whereas I have an '06 model (straight top tube) I chose the 'S' version, upgraded to Fox Float R130 forks (should have got the RLC's as the R's dive a little under braking) & Goodridge braided hoses factory fitted.
œ1845 (IIRC)
I had some Mavic x317's on Hope XC hubs on the hardtail, which I swapped with the ones on the 5, gradually upgraded to this spec

There seems to be a bias towards the Orange at present either that or the specialized boys are out on the trails.
The Orange is œ500 cheaper than the 2007 specialized although I am prepared to wait for the right deal to come along.
Given that I can get a 2006 stumpjumper fsr pro for œ1699 which is œ500 cheaper than the Orange, do you think I am better to wait and get an Orange or go for the Stumpjumper.

Should probably have said that I got my Orange for œ2350 from Leisure Lakes in Nottingham. With all the various upgrades, the bike is pretty much top spec in all depts, IMHO. There's really not much you would want to change.

I like the orange, theres nothing bad on the spec on the pro; so it needs no upgrades just maintainence. The stumpy seems very popular amongst its fans, i've certainly seen then ridden pretty hard. I have heard of reliability problems with the 2007 stumpjumpers, mainly on the higher end own brand suspension systems.

I rode both and chose the Orange Pro.. Nothing against the ride of the Stumpy - i did kind of favour the Orange from day 1. I dont think you could go wrong with either bike so personal preferences swung it for me.
Just have to wait for the damn thing now! (tho i didnt go as mad as Capt. Concussion with the upgrades (he got a good price though!) - just the RLC upgrade for me..oh and mine is gonna be same colour as the SE spec - chrome grey) [:)]

It's a great bike Hoopsy. You'll love it. [:D]
I figured that the Performance Pack, in particular, was great value. You're basically getting œ100 worth of Easton Monkeylite CNT carbon bars, œ60 worth of Thomson seat post, œ60 worth of Thomson stem and a œ70 Gobi saddle, all for only œ150. [;)]

Test ride them - how they feel to you is the only thing that counts.
