Thetford forest

As my S.Downs ride has been postponed due to the severe weather warnings, and I am all geared up for a ride this weekend, I've noticed that the Thetford area is only forecast light rain on Saturday, so I might take my bike up there.
I know there are some Thetford locals who come on here. Can anyone point me in the direction of a website that would tell me where to go?

Yes the Red and Black are well signposted - you won't get lost.
Once you've done the Red & Black, go over to the Brandon side and just wonder about.
It was pretty muddy a couple of weeks ago, so be prepared to get dirty - I did scare a women I was riding behind in her 'clean' clothes when she saw me [:D].0 -
Cool. Sounds like a winner. With the weather at the moment I'm getting pretty used to the bloody mud.
Thanks for the info.

BTW - park at Brandon Country Park - it'll be empty because of the weather and it's free0

Take a look at the forum on mtb-bikes.com there is normally a couple of riders who head to Thetford most weekends, so someone may be around to show you the hidden gems.0

Luke, that link didn't work. Try the Norfolk/suffolk riding one in my sig, it's the same website! Scott, I would offer to show you round but I'm not sure that I'm going to be riding this weekend. I went out and got soaked and caked in mud on wednesday and not sure I fancy it again so soon. Plus I need to go and buy a car!

Scott, I'd offer to take you round as well, but I'm going to opt for a nice lie in [:D] and then baking flapjacks and brownies. Soz0

Guilty as charged. [:I]
If I do decide to ride, I'll try and post on here as soon as possible. It's actually quite tempting, the more I think about it...

No problem. I'm quite looking forward to being out there with just me, my bike and a camelbak, braving the elements.
As long as it doesn't rain too much. [:D]
Excellent website Dave, cheers.

Hi guys, just wondering, how has the weather affected Thetford, if at all?
Been a while since i've been there and i was debating taking the missus (who has expressed interest) up and hiring a few bikes for the day.
Anyone know prices of said rentals and what bikes they have on offer, and generally what the state of trails are at the moment.Less gears, more beers.0 -
When i last rode the red it was pretty muddy in some of the sections. I havent ridden black in a little while but it was pretty bad but with the rain it should of helped
Bike prices. I think they have mainly giants-terrago, rincons. I think they may have a few kona caldera type of bike then they have the less serious pootle about bikes.
Map you will want to download as you have to buy them there.0 -
the trails are pretty sloppy and a few puddles here and there, but that's all part of the fun0
-
Went upto Thetford on Sunday, had a nice ride on the Black route but the mud was a bit exhausting, my first real trial and I really enjoyed it0
-
Hmm? Took a look at the map (thanks for the link!) and it says that the Black Route is Very Difficult and Highly Technical?????
Reading the review of this in MBUK this month, I don't actually get the impression that it's that difficult?
Has anybody done both Follow The Dog at Cannock Chase and the Black Route at Thetford? If so, how do they compare?Craig Rogers0 -
I haven't done the dog so can't compare, however I've just got back into biking so I'm not the fittest bloke in the world and I found it quite easy so I wouldn't be put off by their review of it.0
-
Not really put off, but I have a week off next week and I'm looking at some different trails to travel to.
I'm looking forward to a challenge and liked the idea of the Black Route, but MBUK seemed to make it sound like a nice trail rather than a "why do I do this" trail.
I'll still probably head down there for a go!Craig Rogers0 -
In that case I wouldn't bother, use your time on another trial I think Thetford is ok for a blast around if your not too far away from it but I would use my holiday to check out more technical and challenging trials.0
