Anyone going to see the prologue or start looks interesting in a roadie sort of way.

Im not really into road bikes, but I love watching the Tour on TV. There is always drama, plenty of action and beautiful scenery.

The prologue is on the 7th (July), day after Ozzy at the NIA (get in).
Here's some info. First rider push's off at 3pm i believe.

I am ridiculously excited about the tour coming to britain. We have a great chance of a british rider (wiggins) winning the prologue which would be a massive boost for cycling in this country. surely anything which may get more people riding bikes is a good thing?
From personal experiance i think few things in sports spectatorship come close to watching the peloton speed by and the prologue is fantastic as a chance for riders to make very personal statements about their intentions for the following few weeks. Armstrong in 2002 anyone? Its going to be a great day out i intend going to the presentation on the friday night as well which is a great chance to grab free stuff.
Booked my chunnel ticket for the last stage as well. Its going to be great!0 -
Did you know for the first few years they rode the tour on fixies? then for many years, it was all single speed, the 'inventor' of the tour thought derallieurs made the race too easy.

Yeah derallieurs were banned for some time.
I read somewhere that they used to stop and change gear by hand before the climbs - though I'm not sure how they tensioned the chain.

In the early days the Tour was a much harder, longer event (if thats possible) and was quite literaly a Tour of France. Even so I still think it has to be the hardest sporting event on the planet.

i'll be there. me and the bf going to ride there, watch the event, have bit of a street ride, have a few beers in the sun (hopefully) with good riding mates, then a slightly wobbly ride home i'd imagine. looking forward to it - a legendary cycling event like that doesn't come our way very often... bikeybikey0
