Cove Hustler - extreme?
As the grass always looks greaner on the other side, I've been looking, trying to find something which takes my fancy. Well, I was reading a review of the Hustler and it took it
Thing is with its 5.5 inch travel is OTT for trails/XC. I know it's an age old question, but I know a few of you have the Hustler - what are your opinions and what do you use the bike for?
Cheers

its called a hustler xc for a reason, but the good thing is you can make it angry if you want, most xc bikes nowadays are 5 inch so don't worry about it ,make sure you have ago on one though,i fell in love but when i had a go wasn't blown away,to do it justice it was looking at a 2800 build and i didnt think it was worth it.had a go on a trex ex8 which was as good but only cost 1500

It all depends on your interpretation of xc trails. If you do lots of bumpy or technical stuff then 5.5" would be most welcome. If most of your riding is smooth then less suspension would be adequate.
The Hustler is meant to be a great bike.

There's just no way of me trying one - I would need a 19.5 or bigger frame... just can't drop that amount of dosh on a bike blind

They have a 19.5, i've ridden it and it was really really good, like my stiffee but with suspension, great fun bike and not too much suspension for xc imo.0 -
Great bike. I originally bought mine with the intention of using it for trips away to places like the Welsh and Scottish trail centres. My local trails at Thetford Forest are all pretty smooth fast singletrack and I figured I'd stick with my 100mm travel hardtail around there. I was wrong. I took out my Hustler and after a few rides I was hooked and ride it everywhere. Yes, on paper, it's way too much travel for my local trails but in reality I ride them faster and have more fun on my Hustler than I ever did on my hardtail. And as for the Welsh trail centres, it gives me way more confidence on stuff and I'm riding things I probably would have given I wide birth to on my hardtail.
But I agree with what other people have said about how much it would cost to put together a decent build. I was lucky and managed to pick up my frame secondhand, along with a headset, front mech and seatpost, for œ625, which cut the build cost down quite a bit.

That's excellent feedback, thanks everyone. Looks like I might have to have a trip up to one of the trail centres for a try
Wow! What a baragain! I think I would have to wait a long time to see a used 19.5 frame for sale. What size was yours bearded one?

Mine's a 17.5inch. Absolutely spot on size for me. I got it from the singletrack forum classifieds. It's worth keeping an eye out on there as I've seen a few Hustlers come up there since mine.
