Some Ultegra Bottom Brackets seem to mention something about Italian thread. Firstly, what have Italians got to do with Bottom Brackets. And secondly, are there Italian threaded octalink v1 BB's and non-italian octalink v1 BB's?

I think the Italian thread might be the self-unwinfing one, great if it applies to the link above, not so great if it applies to your BB

Italian threaded bottom brackets are ones where both sides are threaded in the standard way I.e righty tighty lefty loosey. They are a complete pain in the arse as if you grease them when you put them in they have a tendancy to unwind themselves and if you don't grease them they have a tendancy never to come out again. Unless you have an italian built road bike it is unlikely that it will have an italian thread.0

Italian threaded BBs are pretty uncommon these days.
My Bianchi has an English BB. Go figure
