I know the FAQ recomends the isoflow ones but i want somthing for a commuter running a 42 ring up front. On a square taper bb any recomendations (preferabley as cheap as possible just not at the expence of useablity)

Personally, I'd look at getting a Shimano Deore crankset and replacing the rings with a single chainring of your choice. Chain Reaction often have old stock, so you may find a cheap Deore square taper crankset on there.

you will have to either cut your bolts down or buy some thinner chainring bolts. this guy does packs of 5 from his ebay shop.

The chainset I used as a single speed for a bit is about to be sold on ebay for œ99p
You will need single ring bolts and the correct size chainring. It's currently got a 36/48.0
