Wow, what a difference hydros make!!

Well my trusty steed is now equipped with Hope Minis thanks to my lovely bf splashing out on them for me, and they got their first outing last night.

I'd been running cable discs for the last 6 months but found they needed a lot of adjustment and the cables had a tendency to clog up (lots of winter riding takes it's toll) so they were a bit of a pain at times. However trying out these new ones last night I immediately noticed the difference!! True one finger braking and no squidgy levers (as would occasionally be the case with the mechanicals), and on downhill sections they proved invaluable because I had the power there when I needed it (180 rotor up front no doubt helps too). I now understand why most people choose to run hydros [:D]

I've said similar to sonic and feel it would only to be fair to say the same to you. I don't need to hear about your BF splashing out on you or your stuff, keep that stuff off the forum.

First time I used Hydros was on a Double Disk Monty 221ti - I flipped over the bars almost instantly because of how fast they react. After a bit of work, I then figured out to not jst slam them on, because you will just go over!

Though, to be fair. My Mission only runs standard VEE's, because I can't be bothered to fit and H33's or and Disk mounts to my Forks!

Didn't manage to come even close to going over the bars (luckily) because I knew they'd be a feather touch compared to the mechanicals.

A *certain* friend of mine is of the opinion that good v-brakes can be every bit as good as hydros, but having tried vees, mechanicals AND hydros I reckon he's deluding himself. Hydros rule!!! [:D]

No offence *friend*, just my opinion.

Vee's just don't hold enough. And when you're on your back wheel, bouncing on a wall, you NEED it to hold!

If you run Fork HS33's... try grinding the rim

V's as good as Hydros?

Oh dear.......

I've ridden all three of them, V's, mechanicals and Hydros, and imo you cant beat Hydros for power and modulation.
Saying that though, Avid bb7's are as good as if not better than some cheap hydros.

He's already loaned his spare xc wheels for me to use until I get my new ones (the hubs are shot on my old ones but can't afford the new ones just yet) and does all the maintenance on my bike too. I'm spoilt rotten! [:D]
