hi all, need some advice, i've got just over a grand to spend on a hardtail, i've narrowed it down to either the Trek 8000 or the Scott scale 40. has anyone got one or tried one of these, if so please tell me what you think.
i know that their very similar in spec, apart from that the scott has fox 32 f100rl forks with shimano 535 brakes and the trek has rockshox reba sl forks with shimano lx brakes.

thanks

I was recently in the same boat as you. I really liked the look of the Scott but I went for the marvellous Rock Lobster Tig Team SL from Merlin.
The reasons being I wanted something a bit unusual and it is a superb looking bike with full XT and Easton EA50 kit. Go for Rebas and black rims and spokes and it is still less money than the Scott.
If you are spending this much money I would advise trying them all out for size though.
    Keep us posted!

i had a trek 8500 (06 model) as my last bike, very similar to 8000 only had full xt and fox rl80 forks as opposed to rebas and lx. it was light and stiff and very well set out. i did see another thread on this website with a guy in a similar position and it was suggested he visit www.buyabikedirect.co.uk. they had a 06 8900 (with fox forks and full xtr groupset) for around œ1200, lot of bike for the money. but as mentioned above have a look on merlins website for the rock lobster aswell (always get cracking reviews. in that price range you could also consider specialized stumpjumpers or the gary fisher big sur (with carbon seat stays!). whatever you choose though try and demo one so you can really see if its for you or not. happy hunting.

Adam, you really should be posting your own thread matey!!
Not good practice to hijack someone else's.
In regard to your question, you really need to get down to your bike shop and try the bike out and see what size/fit is best for you.
