What does the "S-Works" tag on a frame/bike put on it over a frame/bike without it?

e.g how does an Enduro S-Works differ from a 'standard' Enduro?

The S-works models are usually what you find on next years standard models. My S-works Stumpy FSR from 2005 has the M5 tubing when the rest of the range had the M4 stuff. All of the 2007 S-works models have carbon frames whilst the standard range is using the M5 Alu.

Its also nice just to have something a bit different from your run of the mill Specialized bikes.

The s-works also mean it bacically top of that range.

'Specalized Works' - So as ddogie said, they're basically bikes the Specalized team has used or are using!

Just sold my S-works. It's sitting in a frame box, next to me, whimpering.

Still, got a nice Pace 303 frame on order. Yay!!! Another bike to build up.
