is this a good bike and is it worth the 500pound asking price? what does it compare to now.

Good bike, yes. Worth the œ500 price, in my opinion, no.
It's a 2005 model, and with the imminent release of 2008 bikes around the corner which will be better priced and better specced, i'd pass it by.

For example, an extra œ99 would get you a 2007 Avalanche Expert:

I'm with GTDave, maybe worth œ300 if its in good condition. With the sales imminent I would be saving for a bargain 2007 bike.
