Hi all,
Is there anyone here from the Brighton area? I live in woodingdean and I'm getting bored riding the areas around me over and over. Can anyone recommend any good trails with 10/20 miles of Brighton?
Cheers
Russ

South Downs Way for one, on your door step, many variations are available on the Downs using the SDW as a basis. Further afield you will find Houghton forest (Whiteways) is popular for singletrack etc, ridable from Brighton or catch the train to Amberley. Friston Forest is the other main center, more structured with waymarked routes and tends to get rather busy close to the car parks.
Get yourself a copy of the OS 1:25000 explorer series map for the area (122).
For advice on a specific route you need to say what you want - ball busting hill climbing, technical singletrack, bridleway etc.
Best off to join a club ride with the likes of SussexMTB, mtb-nomads or Sussexmuddyar$e to get a feeling for what's available.0 -
I've heard the riding south of Brighton is pretty bad [;)].
Tony's right, get an OS map and get exploring the SDW. Friston forest is fun as it's got an unoffical downhill track if you can find it (although it is very short!).

Friston Forest is good, there is also a nice section of XC close to Lewes.MBUK0

I've just moved to brighton and did a bit of a reccy yesterday

You probably know this I'm sure?
There was a killer loop described in MBR a few months ago that took in the Friston Forest, well, starts and ends there TBH - as well as heading out towards beachy head (seven sisters) then north skirting along Eastbourne and then looping back along a load of bridleways...
I've not done it yet but it does look quite tiring.
If you grab the OS map that covers Eastbourne it's fairly easy to figure out the loop... the place is crawling with those little green dashes that I love so much!
Hey, why don't you post you routes around brighton on Bikely - at least that way some of us newbies to the area can get some heads up?
Good luck... and enjoy.get on your bikes and ride!0 -
