I ask cos my boss at Buckingham Bikes is going to take us all there on a Sunday at some point soon. What can I expect?

Afan is utterly excellent, however if you go down on a Sunday it will be rather busy. Get there early if you want a park. The shortest 'official' loop is about 10 miles long, but you could string together something shorter if you wanted. Basically there is loads of tight, fast and technical singletrack, that is linked by a bunch of short fireroad blasts.

Even if you don't do Penhrydd, I suggest you find Sidewinder and ride it.

(I don't work for Tredz and have never been to the shop, but it is a good video.)

You'll have fun, don't worry. It's way better than biking in Buckinghamshire. I was born in North Bucks and lived most of my life there. But I know live a 45 min drive from Afan, I know where I'd rather live!

you have to ride the penhydd no brainer! even if you do it second, takes a normal non super freak around an hour and fifteen to ride when not really boggy, some of the most grin inspiring riding youll find get there before 8 and parkings free(œ2.50) they have a bike wash there, the penhydd and one other trail are at the main afan center, the other two trails are 5 mins up the road at the glyncorrwg center follow the brown signs. youll love it and be coming back i gaurantee!!!

If your not on the edge.. your taking up too much room!

The parking has gone up to œ2.60 and it costs œ1 for the bike wash.

Ive ridden some trails but whytes will take some beating. Challenging and rewarding singletrack up and up and then someone took everything I love most going down, mixed it all up and laid it out on a platter. You have to take the "black run" not black a la Glentress a lot more doable, the board walk's great and a steep rocky descent reminiscent of the peaks. Take an average rider an hour, hour and a half.
I just want to go back and do the penhydd now.
