1st Trip To Glentress

Hi everyone

Just back from my first trip to Glentress today. Only been back into biking for 2 months but had a super time in the free ride area and the blue route. Made me realise just how unfit I am but also how much fun real mountain biking can be. Everyone you meet along the way is friendly and says hello and I can highly recommend the sausage on a roll from the hub for a light snack.

Bike did well too, Trek 6000 07, first time it has been really tested like that but stood up well to the punishment I gave it.

Just thought I'd share my experience, recommend Glentress to anyone thinking of going and post a pic of the bike at the summit of some bleeding large climb!! [:D]

Was tempted by the full brekkie but then minded I needed to cycle back up to the top car park and thought better [:D]Guy serving was icing up some choc cake just as I was leaving *drools*

[:D] I parked up at the top car park as I didnt trust my own fitness but was quite surprised how not too bad it was getting back up there from the Hub.Lesson learnt though!! [:I]

Hi brun

Bike has been going well, first real test today but not bad at all. Did notice, and I am not sure whether your tyre threads were in the back of my mind, but the back wheel did lose traction quite a lot and just found it was spinning on steep up hills. Apart from that, all fine. Changing to clipless pedals soon, came into a pair of Northwave shoes at a good price, so that should be interesting [B)]

I spent a week in GT + Inners last Summer with my mates. Going back again this year as it was just so good!

The Hubba Bubba breakfast is to die for! The Red route is also the best trail I have ever ridden. Its techy in all the right ways but never gets silly hard (like the Traquair XC trail!). The Black was a slog on the climbs but so worth it for the descent.

Man I can't wait until August now!

hi,

just had my first trip to glentress last weekend aswell!

loved it. only riding blue and a bit of red but all the same absolutley class for a beginner like me! will be back before the end of the summer!

had a nice bacon sandwich from the cafe too.......and some of that chocolate cake!

The blue is actually very good if you're limited for time and need a quick blast. Very smooth and swoopy with enough to keep you entertained. Betty Blue and Blue Velvet are excellent!

Glad you enjoyed it, not been up there yet, hoping to get up later this year. vids of GT on U-tube look fantastic.

How long is needed to do most of it? will a couple of days be enough as its a bit too far for a day trip.

You could drive up one day, do the red and the free ride park, then do the black the following day and drive home.

Ah.... but you'd need to do Innerleithen as well while you're here!! Caddon Bank just leaves Spooky Wood in the shade, even if you ride it like me ( and do ALL the chicken runs!!!)
Frankie, the blue route is really good, no more fireroad than the red. Its good to do all the good blue bits as extra to the red route.

I've always wanted to go there. But with no means of transport its mard. Might have to try and persuade parents to go on holiday near so i can just nip in to ride it [:p][:D]

The Borders is an ace place to go on holiday Dunk. What are your folks into? If they're into bird watching like my folks theres an Osprey Watch at Glentress too, and loads of nice walks for them while you're blasting round the trails!
Just make sure you give us locals a shout and we'll show you the way![:)]

Is the blue rideable on 'cross bike? is it single track or fire road?

Hmmmm...not sure about that, it's actually quite bumpy in places, bumpier than a lot of the red ( I think because the red gets ridden sooooo much). It also has some pretty unexpected steep climbs too.
